Thanks for the reply.  After the no power/cold boot I can now record from the card via the cat command, but all I get is static?  Something about the tuner not loading?

Thoughts?

You seem to be the happy owner of a PVR250 that needs a cold boot in
order to behave nicely. Try a cold boot (and without power for at least
20 seconds).
