This may have been one of the tests you did already, in which case I 
apologize for asking this again, but if you install a uni-processor 
kernel, does it work then? In that case it's almost certainly smp 
related which isn't very well tested. If it also fails, then smp has 
nothing to do with this and the cause is something else.
