Sorry John, but nothing shows up, it took me a couple of days to realise 
that the ivtv driver was the problem. Could be an interaction between 
the X-driver and the frame buffer.

Yes and no, it doesn't seem to matter if there is something recording or 
not. The problem occurs normally when going back a menu. mplayer at this 
time is not being used. It's one of these intermittent problems that are 
difficult to track down.

Shame I can't figure out how to get a core dump, there is quite a bit of 
disk activity during the crash, like it's dumping a core file.
