Thanks for all the work. However, unless someone else turns up who has 
similar problems with a PCI-X slot I'm not going to pursue it further. 
Basically a matter of setting priorities. This problem could be due to 
some rare timing/hardware issues which may not be reproducable on 
another computer. When it turns out to be a more general problem with 
PCI-X slots, then this becomes much more important.

Should you get the chance in the future to try it again, then I'm more 
than willing to provide assistance.
