I am also seeing a similar problem as the others in this thread. I just upgraded from a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ running Fedora Core 4 x86 to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ FC5 x86_64.
I am running 2.6.17.1 on both machines with ivtv-0.7 and mythtv from svn. I use the same Hauppauge 150 in both machines. When watching livetv in myth on the X2 box the backend will hang after i exit if I change channels. I have the latest firmware installed and I am not sure what is happening. I get the ivtv timeout error when i look at dmesg. I can change channels and watch livetv without issues using mplayer and ptune-ui.pl. I am not sure what variable is causing the problem but it is one of using a 64bit kernel, SMP, faster CPU or FC5 causing some kind of race condition.
