I am sorry this wasn't clear: what I tried was investigating if
updating the firmware would help. Both original and latest give the
same problems. What you saw in ivtv dmesg output  was the last state
of my system. I'll downgrade the firmware for the sake of this
investigation for the time being.

I'll try to squeeze some more info out of the system. Kernel/system
logging is normally disabled because I want the HD to spin down (and
stay down) if I don't use the system.

I understand, nevertheless I don't see this as a usability problem,
but suspect either hardware or driver bugs. That's the reason I
started here...
