Hello,

I've been trying to test the video-out functionality on a PVR-350 using
the ivtv-kmdl and video4linux-kmdl packages for Fedora 7 from ATrpms.
This is my first experience trying to use this hardware, so apologies
for any obvious mistakes I've made!

Using the saa7127 test_image=1 option, then loading ivtv-fb, I get the
test image on my TV but it is "smeared" and "rolling" - it looks like it
doesn't have vertical sync, or a similar effect. For the first ~1 second
of the test image appearing it's steady, then as ivtv initialises it
starts rolling. This is with:
ivtv-kmdl-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7-0.10.3-129.fc7
ivtv-firmware-20070217-13.at
ivtv-0.10.3-129.fc7

I then downloaded the Fedora kernel source, and rebuilt to include
saa7127 as a module [1]. If I load this module, again with test_image=1,
below ivtv I get a stable uncorrupted test image.
This version of saa7127 was built from kernel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7

So I guess there has been a change in saa7127 to cause this problem?

As an aside, when following HOWTOs for ivtv, I thought I was
experiencing the symptoms described here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg05862.html

Only by chance reboot after editing a modprobe.conf did I rid myself of
this "diagonal mess" - it seems that if saa7127 isn't loaded _before_
ivtv I experience this. e.g. to try the different saa7127 versions as I
did above I needed to remove all the saa7127, ivtv, and ivtv-fb, then
reload in that order. This isn't mentioned in the documentation.
Without the line:
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe saa7127; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install
ivtv; /sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb
in modprobe.conf I was manually loading saa7127 _after_ ivtv, which
seemed to initiate the "diagonal mess".

[1] Fedora no longer build saa7127 in their default kernels. If saa7127
could be built with ivtv when it's not provided by the stock kernel,
that would be really useful! I suspect I don't really need the
video4linux0kmdl package apart from saa7127...

Best regards,

kev.
