Thanks a lot for the hint.

I tried loading the ivtv module (remotely) with the option/parameter you 
suggested and added a "cardtype" parameter as well, which made most 
warnings disappear.

Only
   ivtv0: i2c addr 0x21 not found for command 0x4008646f
remains, which does not look too bad (maybe I am wrong here...).

Currently I have no physical access to the machine with the capture 
card, but I will connect a video source when I get there and do more 
experiments. I'll let you and the mailing list know about the results as 
soon as possible.
