Jeff, All HVR-1600's should be supported equally well by the cx18 driver.
Recently they started shipping with a new analog tuner that was not recognized by the tveeprom and tuner-simple modules. That has been fixed in recent kernels. Of course an analog tuner replacement can happen again without a model number change. Therefore I can never guarantee the analog tuner assembly will be supported out of the box on any one new unit you buy. However, analog tuner assembly substitutions don't happen often. What is more likely is CX23418 chips being no longer available. The scarcity of an end product in the retail channel is probably the first hint of such. Standard PCI is "old" technology after all.
