======================

Another strange data point: As I mentioned before, when I use MythTV to record one show, it doesn't seem to be able to change to the correct channel (it uses whatever it was on before), although I can change channels just fine when watching Live TV.

When I record two shows simultaneously, however, Myth _does_ tune in to the second channel just fine, althouh the image is slightly stretched and offset to the right. The bottom-right station logo on most channels is about half cut off -- and this doesn't happen when recording from the other tuner.

Here's what my mythbacked log says when recording two things at once. It wasn't able to get the first one, Celebrity Fit Club (I wasn't actually watching this! :) It says something about "ChannelBase: Could not find input". The second tuner worked just fine, however (tuning in to Zoolander). It seems a little odd to me that the first tuner is identified as cardid 1 and the second is identified as cardid 4. Is that normal?

2005-03-06 12:21:04.922 Reschedule requested for id 75.
2005-03-06 12:21:05.482 Scheduled 94 items in 0.6 = 0.12 match + 0.44 place
2005-03-06 12:21:05.492 Started recording "Celebrity Fit Club" on channel: 1029
on cardid: 1, sourceid 1
2005-03-06 12:21:05.495 ChannelBase: Could not find input: Television on card
when setting channel 29
2005-03-06 12:21:05.602 Changing from None to RecordingOnly
2005-03-06 12:21:27.608 Reschedule requested for id 76.
2005-03-06 12:21:28.082 Scheduled 95 items in 0.5 = 0.03 match + 0.44 place
2005-03-06 12:21:28.092 Started recording "Zoolander" on channel: 1031 on
cardid: 4, sourceid 1
2005-03-06 12:21:28.712 Changing from None to RecordingOnly

The ChannelBase error is different from when there is no card at all in the computer. Then it looks like this:
2005-03-06 13:17:43.147 ChannelBase: Could not find input: Tuner 0 on card when setting channel 24

Any ideas what I should do or where I should look?

This is all really strange. My test box with the
pvr-500 in it has been doing dual recordings for a
couple of days. I've just scheduled back to back junk
for it to record to check and it seems to be doing
fine with the things that I've told you about.

Have you installed Windows and WinTV2000? The about
dialog box describes the card characteristics,
including the tuners and model number. It might be
helpful to know if there's a new version of the PVR500
out now.

One more issue: my MythTV box doesn't seem to change
channels when
doing a scheduled recording (it uses the last
channel watched), but it
is capable of changing channels just fine with live
TV.  Strange...

I looked into my PVR-500MCE tuning problems a
little more and played
around with tuner.c to make my card tune properly.
It turns out that
the tuning wasn't just a bit off -- it was
approximately a whole
channel off.

In tuner.c, I modified the last line of the
function
static void set_tv_freq(struct i2c_client *c,
unsigned int freq)
from this:
      t->tv_freq(c,freq);
to this:
      t->tv_freq(c,freq + 104);

The "+ 104" is a correction factor I added to make
it tune to the
correct frequency. 104 * 1/16 MHz = 6.5MHz. In
other words, when I
tell the card to tune to a particular frequency,
it tunes 6.5MHz too
low.

The hack is serving for now, but it's obviously
not a good solution.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas
about why the tuning is
offset?

Well, my PVR-500MCE (NTSC) is working with 0.3.2f
+ Jarod's tuner
update patch. The only issue now is that the
tuning seems slightly
off.

Suppose I tune into channel 10; 'ivtvctl -R'
tells me that this is
frequency 3096. It comes in black and white
until I push the
frequency up a little bit, like up to 3100 or so.
Then it looks
great.  It's almost there!
