Right, input 4 should give you tv. White snow means you are not getting a
proper signal because you didn't tune to a channel. Do that, and you can watch 
tv.

For tuning, I remember there are helper scripts in the packages utils subdir.
See yourself if you can use them (I don't). Maybe somebody else wants to
help out about how to use them with German TV. As said, I myself use ivtvctl
and pass the raw frequency, the list of which I grabbed from my providers
website.
