I have exactly the same symptoms as Bob, although I am not completely sure what triggers the loss
of the remote. Bob's description sounds reasonable, though, as I lose the remote every couple of days,
and I only record every couple of days.
If I lose the remote, no amount of fussing with insmod/rmmod and/or restarting the lircd daemon helps;
only a *cold* boot will do the trick, and everything works fine again.
As Bob states, there is nothing in /var/log/messages that will help track down the problem. I honestly don't
know whether this problem would be caused more by ivtv or the lirc drivers. Can someone advise?
