Things are getting stranger, my problem turns out to
be that gnome has esd running in the back ground and
it is hogging the sound card. Once I killed esd,
mplayer /dev/video produced a beautiful picture. Now
on to install Mythtv. Not sure why the firmware load
error is occuring but it doesn't seem to stop the mpeg
stream from being produced :)
