Aha! I could have sworn I tried that at one point and it didn't make a
difference. In any case, it's now much better than before (e.g. it works
now), but it isn't perfect:

1. The video is very jittery

2. There is occasional tearing and bright horizontal line flashes

3. The image is shifted up and left. On my 4:3 TV widescreen video
appears at the top of the screen, and fullscreen stuff sometimes has a
small black border on the bottom and right.

I think I remember reading something about #3 on the list before; it's
not a big deal if that can't be fixed right now, but if the first two
problems remain I'll just stick with xshm for now.

And BTW, if it matters I'm trying to play a DVD image (.iso).

Thank you,

Daniel

You need to decode something before the xv works. Ie something like :-
dd if=/dev/video0 of=/dev/video16 bs=65k count=50

Subject: [ivtv-devel] Xine with xv driver shows pink & green stairstep
pattern and no video

The problem:
Xine works OK with the xshm video driver, but I was hoping to get better
quality with the xv driver. Instead I just get a screen filled with
repeating pink and green stairsteps. Before I did a cold boot I was
getting a still video image on screen (still pink and green). Is this
related to any known problems? Is there anything I can try to fix this?

Particulars:
PVR-350 NTSC
Xorg 6.8.2
ivtv v0.3.6-s
ivtvdev_drv.o v0.10.2
kernel 2.6.10-gentoo-r6
Playing through MythTV 0.18.1-r2

I have my xorg.conf and xorg.log ready to send if either would help.
dmesg ivtv output is below:
