Ross, can you email me a ivtv mpeg to see if I can play it?  I don't have 
access to another capture card.

Everything looks good there, mplayer is detecting the video as
expected (or so I think).

Have you tried playing another ivtv created MPEG with that version of mplayer?

How about using the svideo or composite input (set via ivtvctl) and
try using that instead of the tuner?
