Hi list

Audio seems to be a common problem around here, so I am sorry to post yet another request for help on this topic.

I bought a Hauppauge 150, model 1045 and installed ivtv 0.4. If I do this:

cat /dev/video0 > ~/test.mpg

I play test.mpg with mplayer and get useable video, but no audio. Can someone offer suggestions to fix this?

A peculiarity about my setup: my Linux machine does not have sound output working yet, so I play test.mpg using mplayer on Mac OS X over a network connection. From what I've read, this should work ok, since the audio should be encoded inside the mpg file (if I am wrong on this, please correct me). I've verified that mplayer is working with video and audio by playing some other mpeg files that I hadn't recorded off the Hauppauge card.

I did my original setup using instructions from

http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Howto:Debian

The resulting Debian package didn't seem to install HcwMakoA.ROM, so I copied it to the appropriate place on my own. I can see that it loads, so maybe this isn't the problem (see details below).

I also used the instructions from

http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware

Things I have tried unsuccessfully:

`ivtvctl -g reg=0x808,val=0x1f` as detailed in
http://www.ivtvdriver.org/pipermail/ivtv-users/2005-November/000385.html

cold reboot

changing to various video input channels (trying to change audio channels using `ivtvctl -q 0` gives "ioctl VIDIOC_S_AUDIO failed: Invalid argument"; do I have the syntax wrong?)

Details follow:

linux 2.6.8 (Debian package kernel-image-2.6.8-2-k7)
ivtv 0.4 (compiled from Debian ivtv source packages; see above)
Debian 3.1/sarge with a few testing and unstable packages mixed in
Epox 9NPA motherboard with NVidia nForce4 chipset
