This is overscan. Most tv's will overscan the image around 4% past the visible boundaries of your tv screen. You can either use a window manager that lets you make a smaller virtual desktop, or scale the output window in MythTV. Adjusting the screen resolution in xorg.conf won't work, as far as I know.
