Hello Ross,
The black and white window happens when watching TV.
I did not try the S-video input yet,
but in Mplayer I can watch a DVD-ROM movie in colour.
note:
Mplayer /dev/video0 does give warnings about the video_out device,
of which I do not know the consequences. (see below).
