I applied the patch and I don't think it made any discernable difference. The sound problem is definitely there at least. I went back and examined the signal before and after the patch and before and after the amplifier just to make sure. I did notice that I underestimated the difference that the amplifier made though. I can see the difference between the 2 tuners at lower channels, but for the most part, the visual looks ok on both tuners. Without the amplifier, the difference on channel 5 for example is enormous. So maybe even more amplification will resolve all the visual problems, but it's annoying that the PVR-500 is so sensitive to signal in the first place.
