Are you using the tuner to set the channel or an external cable or satellite receiver?
If using an external tuner, then is the initial frequency being set to channel 3 or 4 respectively? I know that when my tuner loads if I do not set the channel frequency to 3 (either manually or when mythbackend loads) then my output is always black and I get the same kind of errors. Also, if my cable loses signal on a channel (happens ofter here on comcast encore channels) then I get similar results.
