Apparently my cable company decided it would be good to implement a “bleeding ears” policy.  There are about 5 channels now that play channels an order of magnitude louder than the programming.  I have been forced to prerecord everything on those channels so I can cut the channels out.  This is worse than most people complaints about loud commercials.  My TV sits around “30” of 60 during a program.  I have to drop it to 5 to prevent hearing/hardware damage.

Some example networks in order of the highest to lowest volume commercials

Sci-Fi

FX

Fox

Spike

NBC

I realize this is probably not IVTV’s fault.  But I was wondering if the drivers had a “high end volume choke” feature or something.  I don’t want full audio compression, just the ability to hear after a commercial comes on.  If they do not have them, how would I officially request them.

If it was something that I could control through ivtvctl I would be happy.  I could script it into my remote to turn it on and off.

If someone could suggest a hardware device/circuit I can build, that would suffice also.

Thanks
