I've been wrestling with getting X to run on the TV-out of my PVR-350 for a while, and now the TV-out seems to work, but the system hangs during boot. I am running what is essentially a default i386 FC5 install, updated to latest available kernel version (
2.6.17 i think). I downloaded the ivtv and xdriver binaries from ATRPMs through the FC5 add-software GUI, and got many different tests to work. Capture was working fine, I was able to get a test image on the TV-out, and I was able to route a video stream through the card, as per Jarod Wilson's guide. The last step I took was editing my
xorg.conf file, removing the original Device, Monitor, and Screen sections, and replacing them with the ones for the PVR-350.
That's essentially the history of my box since the last wipe: Install FC5, Update to current kernel version + all other updates, Install latest IVTV+xdriver. Test capture. Test TV-out. Swap xorg.conf as above.
The symptoms are also pretty simple. On booting the system, I see all my normal stuff on the CRT monitor. BIOS splash, GRUB, and all the text boot stuff through udev is on the original monitor. During udev start, I get a green screen on the TV. When udev finishes, everything on the monitor tabs over strangely (some of the text is tabbed over a few times, and wraps down to another line), and I start to see nice GUI stuff on the TV. Nothing more happens on the monitor from this point forward. Mouse is working and everything. I click to see boot details, and it tells me that all my logical volumes are clean and I'm entering runlevel 5. All that stuff gets the green ok. The moment it displays the message "Checking for hardware changes", my system hangs. The mouse will no longer move, all the eye-candy movement stops, and the system goes quiet. I'm 100% hung.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Is the pre-hanging behavior standard for people using the TV-out on their PVR-350? Are there any other changes I need to make, either to xorg.conf or otherwise, to get my system ready for the TV-out? Is FC5 somehow fighting with the manual changes I made to
xorg.conf?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
