  Update:

I found the cx25840 datasheet, and with it I was able to fool around
with the registers directly using ivtvctl -r. Problem is, no amount
of register meddling would produce the preferred bilingual audio mode
(aka "language AB", "lang1 + lang2", "bilingual", etc.). I also tried
"v4l2-ctl -t bilingual". The output of v4l2-ctl --log-status would
show correct values, but the mpeg audio stream would always contain
only language A.

After some code fiddling, I found the problem to be a result of the
PVR150_WORKAROUND code, since my card is (supposedly) affected by the
audio dropout bug. I disabled the workaround in cx25840-core, set a
default PREF_MODE of 0x07 (dual), recompiled, installed, rebooted and
voi-la! SAP is detected perfectly, and both languages can be heard
simultaneously (and in MythTV, individially disabled via the mute
controls).

It remains to be seen if I'll be a victim of the bug that prompted
the introduction of the workaround in the first place...

  Any thoughts?

Adolfo
