I have two PVR-500s. One is in a MythTV backend that has never been
upgraded. (Still running ivtv 0.3.6o) It has always run perfectly, so
I haven't touched it.

Around 6 months ago, tuner 1 stopped having sound... Even though nothing
has changed, I had to run "ivtvctl -d /dev/video0 -q1" to get sound to
work. Just last month tuner 2 stopped having sound until I did a
"ivtvctl -d /dev/video1 -q1". I've added those commands to my rc.local
file, and it's fine... but curious as to why it changed.

Try that command and see if it works for you.
