Once again, I seem to be answering my own questions, the build code is
as follows (modify for your own distro)
$ make CONFIG_INPUT_LIRC=m CONFIG_LIRC_ZILOG=m -C
/usr/src/kernels/$(uname -r) M=$PWD modules
