Afaik, that step is only necessary if you want the Red Hat Graphical
Boot to display on your TV.

WRT getting the driver to autoload, it won't.  You'll  have to fudge
it somewhere (read on about setting up lirc, the line he advises you
add to the init.d script will do it).

I tried setting it up on FC3, and I found many things just don't work properly.

IMHO, the best solution is to downgrade to FC2.. at least for now..
