This is exactly what I meant, thanks for elaborating.
This can already be found in the RELEASE_NOTES document, so I don't
think I'll put it in the announce, but rather on the web site.

Yes, I'll update the install page on the web site, since it's too late
to update the install page in the distributed documentation. But
that's also why we made this alpha release, to catch this kind of
problems.



I wholeheartedly agree. But the binaries have already been signed and
voting is nearly complete, so this is not possible.

As a matter of fact it was agreed that for the next release there will
be 2 binaries (one with dependencies, one without but with a script to
to download them).

BTW I've opened https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IVY-481 for this.
