I dont think that would be a bad thing to provide the metadata ...
as long as they arent in an official distribution.

Having the project configuration for a common used and free available
IDE (eg Eclipse ;) could increase the community. It decreases the
amount of work of setting up a project.

BTW - you should document that :-)
* Setting up Eclipse
  - Which Eclipse version? (2+, 3+, ...)
  - Which additional plugins? Point to update sites / homepages
    (I think you have to install IvyDE - from where? SVN plugin)
  - Setting up SVN integration (point SVN plugin to Ivys SVN adress)
* Check out
* Create a patch
...



The fact that other projects doesnt have any metadata could result in
that they dont have a common IDE (Idea, NetBeans, Eclipse, ...)
