I believe when I first submitted the code for this, that was the case, but as 
others took it over,
they discovered that not all the protocols were quite stable enough, or didn't 
have
all the correct support for ivy, so the list of protocols was deliberately 
limited.  I myself,
had primarily created this for the sftp functionality.

Ivy comes with a preconfigured list of VFS providers:

Any idea why we have done it this way? I think we should use the default VFS 
configuration instead.
