Estimados colegas,

La Comisión Europea a través de EBLIDA está trabajando sobre el tema de obras
huérfanas. La Unidad de Copyright solicita datos y ejemplos de las bibliotecas
por lo que sería muy valioso para abundar en este tema los ejemplos que podáis
aportar.

Podeis enviar vuestras respuestas:

Joanne Yeomans: yeom...@debibliotheken.nl

con copia a: toby.bain...@sconul.ac.uk

La fecha límite es el próximo 8 de febrero.

Gracias por vuestra colaboración

Tema: On behalf of Toby Bainton: Urgent request for help on orphan works

  Dear EBLIDA members:

The European Commission urgently needs some facts and examples from
libraries. The Copyright Unit is writing a policy paper about how to deal with
orphan works. It could be very helpful to us.

It would be wonderful if you could send your examples and data to Joanne
yeom...@debibliotheken.nl
with a copy to me: toby.bain...@sconul.ac.uk

It would help libraries if we could send any of the following information -

1 - the *average cost to a library of digitising one item* (the technical
digitisation, and necessary work to achieve that - not including licensing
costs)

[note - everyone understands that the cost of digitising 'one item' will
depend on the kind of collection; but the Copyright Unit would like to know
the kind of range of costs, so that they can compare these costs with licensing
costs proposed by collecting societies]

2 - the *costs or tariffs* of any licences *currently in use* for orphan
works

3 - descriptions of the kinds of orphan work that libraries wish to
digitise in future

[note - it will be helpful if we concentrate on orphan works that are
unlikely to compete with publishers' business models, such as private diaries,
postcards from the 1920s and so on]

I do hope you may be able to send some of this information by 8 February.

  With good wishes

  Toby Bainton
