I apologize, that wasn't the right ./configure log. The header files
are in place and are recognized, but even though I have 0.2.29
installed:

checking for gsasl.h... yes
checking for gsasl_check_version in -lgsasl... yes
checking for GnuSASL version >= 0.2.27... no
configure: error: no SASL backend available out of: gsasl

I realize that this could be because there might be old residual
versions lying around, but I haven't found any.
