Hi,
           It is working fine for me in Ubuntu,
I am keeping the full path under section
options > preferences > External Programs
Main PDF directory.

/home/sjo/LaTeX_WRK/BIBLIOGRAPY/RPRNTS2009
where I keep my pdf files and they are opening with out problem
