I'm not seeing what is different in this new LyX document compared with other docs. Running lyx-2.1.3 and JabRef-2.10 on Slackware-14.1.
Document->Settings->Bibliography is set for Natbib with Author-year style rather than numeric, default style is 'plainnat,' and bibliography generation processor is 'bibtex;' all as set in a document that does not have these issues. A JabRef reference row is selected and I click the LyX link. In the document the reference is displayed as [Author Year] rather than (Author Year) and there is no other style choice available in the citation settings dialog box. When I preview the document the citation displays as a question mark. After looking at both LyX and JabRef without finding a reason for this behavior I'm writing to ask for ideas.
