I am running 2.10.beta2. Also, the I am using abbr not appr, but that might just be a typo on your part (I copy and pasted it from JabRef). If it still gives you trouble try downgrading from 2.10 to 2.10_beta2 and see if that fixes the problem. I do seem to remember that there was a problem with one of the later builds that messed with the key generation, and I reinstalled a former version. Also, there is a 2.11 beta out. If 2.10 beta2 works for you, try the 2.11 beta and see if that fixes it...
