Heyhey,

On the one hand, we are well aware that Java 8 might not be standard
on some Linux distributions. On the other hand, Java8 enables us to
move quickly and to integrate new features and fix bugs. If it might
be the case that you don't need new functionality, just stay with
2.11.1.

In case your distribution won't update to Java8 soon, we could also
work on a `deb` or `rpm` package. I personally felt bad about that,
because users are not used to install debs for Java applications, are
they? (Background: We use Install4J and it provides to create debs
downloading the JRE automatically:
https://www.ej-technologies.com/products/install4j/features.html)

BTW: Debian offers Java8 as backport for Jessie:
https://packages.debian.org/sid/openjdk-8-jre

Finally, a first googling revealed
http://tecadmin.net/install-oracle-java-8-jdk-8-ubuntu-via-ppa/#.
Since Java8 is mostly backwards compatible with Java7, there should be
no issues.

Cheers,

Oliver
