The discussion in the Texstudio list was enlightning:
There is a dropdown box under the second right icon in the icon bar:
there you can choose the external program to use. If you choose
texstudio the txs icon will be displayed and, when texstudio is started,
the command Ctrl-L inserts the selected bib item into the tex file open
in txs. The form of the insertion \cite or \autocite or anyother mark
can be selected in settings catalog under external programs. The path to
texstudio has to be set in the same dialog but is most often set
automatically.
