well, since Lenya is based on Cocoon and Cocoon ships with HSQL DB it's probably worth considering it (at least for Lenya), but as Edgar is pointing out, as default, the simpler the better.
Do you mean simpler for the developer or simpler for the end-user ? Because if it's packaged properly the end-user won't see a difference. But I do agree that it is a little more work for the developer though :)
