Ok: quick question for anyone interesting in naming debates.
Now that I _finally_ completed implementation of #1402
(https://github.com/FasterXML/jackson-databind/issues/1402) --
configurable handling of `null` values for deserialization, I think
it'd make sense to push out the first pre-2.9.0 version.
This would allow both initial testing of backwards compatibility (that
is, to uncover issues to resolve before final 2.9.0), as well as make
it easier to test out new and improved functionality.
Up-to-date list of features, fixes is maintained at:

https://github.com/FasterXML/jackson/wiki/Jackson-Release-2.9

But before cutting this first release I started thinking that use of
earlier convention (2.8.0.rc1, rc2) may be mildly misleading: at least
this initial version is not even planned to be the final release.
Rather it's a preview of sorts, to weed out issues, and final release
will be different.

Given this, use of "pr1" (for pre-release) might make more sense.

Or, we could consider "alpha", "beta", "gamma" (etc) modifier.

Preferences? Suggestions? I don't want to spend lots of time on
debating naming, but thought now would be good time to change it if
necessary.
