Ok, in case you may have missed it, Hacktoberfest 2020 (https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/) is on, and Jackson project -- as well as other projects under FasterXML github org -- is participating in it.
Hacktoberfest is basically a month-long event, open to everyone, that wants to help projects get new contributors, contributions as well as help more people become contributors -- just trying out, to see if the like it -- and overall help OSS participation. This has not been without controversy, due to potential Spam, but I hope changes outlined in: https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/hacktoberfest-update will make 2020 event be positive one. Now: I try to help contributors similar to what I normally do, but there are additional things that are needed to label things, and to try to surface issues that are: * Less difficult for new contributors to tackle, and/or * Would be specifically valuable to users I created a new repo: https://github.com/FasterXML/Hacktoberfest2020 to help, to act as a hub of sorts -- including having some issues not found in other repos, mostly things that do not relate to (just) one particular code repository. At this point I will try to do what I can (on the side I hope to get 2.12.0-rc1 out! :) ), and could be very grateful for all the help anyone could give. In addition to suggestions on the mailing lists, Gitter chat (https://gitter.im/FasterXML/jackson-databind), it would be great to get help with Github issues, things like: 1. Adding labels ("hacktoberfest", "good-first-issue") -- not sure how to let others add labels, but feel free to cc me on issue to suggest additions. Also goes for repos that are missing labels. 2. Answering questions on issues, adding suggestions (f.ex for issues that might be missing reproduction, or may belong to different repo). 3. If you are a regular contributor to repo, and think you could be a maintainer -- let me know! Happy to share push rights! This is all voluntary-based so there is no specific expectation for time spent or such; if you think you can help, projects are happy to get any and all help. We all have other things that often mean less time on OSS things so do not be too worried you couldn't do enough. Other ideas, suggestions? -+ Tatu +- ps. I am already seeing many contributions, esp. for things labeled as "good-first-issue"! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "jackson-dev" group.
