just for completion: I tried the *same* image as before on two other 
machines I happened to have available. Both Debians (and same qemu) and 
Intel processors:

Core i5-8265U, also a Thinkpad, just 'slightly' newer:
XSAVES and INVPCID both come up 'ok', jailhouse working fine

Core i5-3470, sort of older "Consumer Desktop"
XSAVES and INVPCID both come up as "missing (optional)", all checks 
passing, jailhouse working fine
This processor is missing the two features in the first place, checking 
/proc/cpuinfo in the hosting Linux

So the former i5-6200U is a bit of a slacker, pretending a feature but not 
providing it, when needed ;)
