hi rob, about samples starting with "sample_": i'd like to introduce a new naming convention. when samples are generated from a board and a test file, i need a way to name the generated file. logically, i decided to use sample_ . this means when it's starting with this prefix, you it's been generated (and those which did not). some of eur's samples (and one of yours now i think) are named like this, and shouldn't since they are aren't generated.
about pic name: i don't have strong opinion on this. i may prefer xwithout it, since samples are released in different dir (one per pic) so no need to repeat the information. this can also make the filename a little bit lighter. btw, for some pic (eg 16f88, 16f648) there are two blink samples: one from you, one generated from joep. i don't care keeping both, but it might be confusing. your point of view ? cheers, seb ----- Message d'origine ----- De: Rob Hamerling <[email protected]> Env: vendredi 26 décembre 2008 12:05 À: [email protected] Objet: [jallib] sample naming convention Hi guys, I have a somewhat trivial issue about the naming convention of sample programs, which has been discussed before, but I think the decisions didn't make it to JSG. In the current TORELEASE collection I see samples which have the pictype in the filename such as the blink samples, others have a filename starting with 'sample', some have none of these. This may give the user the impression that these differences in the naming mean that the samples have different status or that the samples are grabbed from different sources. Suggestions: - remove 'sample' because all samples are in the sample tree. - remove pictype from or add pictype to all samples. About the second suggestion: I think it is easier for the user to find a sample which comes closest to where he is looking for when all samples are in a single directory. In that case the filename must contain the pictype. Regards, Rob.
