If you also want really nice and powerful robot, take a look at PR2 from Willow Garage. It can play pools, bring a beer, etc... It runs ROS software, open source, very fun to use and develop with. For me, it looks like the most advanced existing robots. Even if it doesn't walk, it is much more useful IMO. http://www.willowgarage.com/pages/robots/pr2-overview I've done several tests running ROS on my Nokia N900 ( http://code.google.com/p/ros-n900/) and its webcams (face detection in particular), it's impressive how "easy" it can be.
