Avalon uses xerces for reading configurations... but you can plug
whatever SAXParser you prefer.

Actually is the Loader that provides Configuration to Avalon (and so to
James). I don't like this solution but as an extreme measure you can
rewrite the AvalonConfiguration.java and find a smaller way to read conf
files and create the Configuration tree.
