Hi,

I'm new to this list, so please excuse me if the answers to my
questions have already been posted - unfortunately, there is
no search function for the mailing list archives...

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by dot-stuffing, but I've noted
that when RETRieving a message from the POP3 server, the final
dot does not appear on a line of its own, but appended to the last
line of text, so the POP3 client gets hung.

On the other hand, if the message contains text lines with a single
dot, these lines are (correctly, I assume) replaced by lines
containing two dots.

One more thing: I experimented with JAMES, manually (i.e. via telnet
from a console window), with Netscape Messenger and with kmail.

SMTP and POP3 with Netscape seem to be ok, apart from the POP3 "."
problem, but kmail hangs when trying to send a message over
SMTP, waiting for a reply from the SMTP server indefinitely.

All I can see from the JAMES logs is an incoming SMTP connection,
but there is no HELO command from kmail.

Of course, this may be a problem with kmail and not with JAMES,
but does anyone have a clue what the problem might be or how to get
some extra trace or debugging info? Is kmail waiting for something
that other server usually send but JAMES doesn't?

By the way, I'm using the latest(?) CVS download (from Friday or so),
not the tarball.

Regards,

Harald
