I haven't used any in particular, but I know there are numerous ones out
there.  If you get a list of them, I think that would be useful information

There isn't any "industry standard" format that I know of for mail storage.
Every mail server I've seen seems to store things a little different.  You
should be able to access the messages through the server directly.  Any
problems certain clients have experienced should be fixed by now (if not, we
need to fix them).
