It must be a typo. You need the wa particle, if the subject is inferred it
would be like this...

Doko desu ka

  Subject: [Japanese_Language] Newbie and question

Hello! Just joined up today, or rejoined, I think I was here
awhile back but forget exactly. But anyway, started teaching myself
Japanese a bit again recently and learning some of the basic
questions like doko, dare, ikutsu, etc. though ran into something
that confused me with the 'wa' particle. One of the instructional
books I found had this as an example:

Doa doko desu ka. (Door where is it?)

When I thought it would be:

  Doa wa doko desu ka.

So if the subject is inferred you don't need the 'wa'? And does
written Japanes use question marks or do questions in romanji
(romanjii?) still just end with a period? Thanks!
