I noticed with Anime they tend to talk a little slower than in live action.
Not much, but maybe just enough. Worth a shot, anyway.

My experience is that Japanese markets with a video rental section or
Japanese book stores often have a kids' section, with brightly colored books
and simplified wording, intended for Japanese children. This may have what
you need, including a minimum of advanced Kanji, and furigana (The tiny kana
next to the kanji, vital for looking it up if you don't recognize it).
