If your using Yahoo, the problem is fairly common. Even if you have IME enabled on your PC to show double byte, for some reason Yahoo still will not show most of the time. What I've done is create another e-mail account at Yahoo.jp. When I get an e-mail that I can't read I forward it to my other (Yahoo.jp) e-mail account and then I can read it just fine. The trick is that you have to be able to read Japanese to navigate the screens - they are not exactly 1 to 1 with their English counterparts. Good luck.
