-kun and -chan are used mainly with children. You can stick them on the end of the first name or last name, or on the end of a nickname. They can also be used with young adults or familiar friends. -kun is only used with boys, but -chan is used with boys or girls. I have a friend named Kohei - we call him Kochan.
There are other titles. -sama is honorrific. You might here it where an employee of a company would refer to a customer as "Tanakasama". -senshu is used to refer to a member of a sports team. There are others. But I wouldn't worry about using them - you really can't go wrong just using -san. -----Original Message----- From: Rob Anglin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Japanese Language <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 06 Sep 2007 19:34:41 -0400 Subject: [Japanese_Language] -san, -kun, -chan I understand how -san is used, but are -kun and -chan used for?
