JNDI is relatively simple and it is not too much work to make it
useful. A page of code and you have attributes of a LDAP server. Not
many companies have LDAP servers running though, albeith that's
probably changing (other "providers" include: DNS, NIS, (NDS), RMI,
COS & file system). I haven't looked into the file system provider,
but it might give us a suitable platform for small sites and an
upgrade path for existing jserv users.
JDNI is licensed as evaluation (5 months, Sun can terminate license in
10 days). We cannot distribute the jars and it's binary only (at
least that's what I get from the license).
